It would appear this list is inactive, but I thought I'd give it a shot 
anyway.

Does anyone know of any good documentation on building a VM largely in
your intermediate form (bytecode, AST)?  I've identified many potential 
places
for trouble, but I'd like to avoid any nasty surprises up front, as 
opposed to discovering out late in development that I can't perform a 
certain action in a certain place because it runs into a looping 
requirement.
